New Mom Must-Haves

by Marikate Wilson

New moms will need to be well prepared for the arrival of their newborn. Not only will you have physical and emotional needs, but also a new baby poses the need for many items to be at hand in the house and on the go. The must-haves included here are of course suggestions, but come from expert moms who have faced this new world of new babydom!

In the house:

  • A Sleeper Bassinet (either electronic or traditional will do!)
  • Nursing Pillow – even if you’re not breastfeeding, baby will feel secure sleeping and feeding. We love this one from Nu Angel!
  • Swaddle Blankets
  • Bottle Drying Racks
  • Baby Wrap/Carrier – yes in the house! Be hands free while you cook, clean and read your favorite online magazine!
  • White Noise App or Lullaby CD’s
  • Diaper Caddy – with all the accessories needed to make a quick change in any part of the house

We all know to have bottles and pacifiers. Extras of everything else will help to keep baby comfortable and your sanity in tact. Don’t forget these essentials when you travel with baby – even if it is just to grandmother’s house.

In your diaper bag:

  • Extra Burp Cloths/Bibs
  • Premeasured Formula Dispensers (vs. toting that big canister!)
  • Antibacterial Hand Sanitizer
  • A Wet Bag
  • Extra Diapers (at least 2-3 depending on how long you will be out)
  • Swaddle or Receiving Blanket (less bulky and space saving; also comes in handy for on-the-go changing)
  • Extra Onsies and a Change of Clothes (or two, or ten!)

After your baby is born, it is essential to think about your health and wellness just as much as while you were carrying your child. These must-have items will aide you as you heal and embark on new motherhood challenges.

Just for mom:

  • Tucks Medicated Cooling Pads (for pain relief down there)
  • Nursing Pads – These biodegradable pads from NuAngel are not only eco-friendly, but they are also comfortable and award winning!
  • Nipple Cream
  • Nursing Bras – keyword, COMFORT!
  • After Pregnancy Undergarments - think the Belly Bandit, waist trainers, shapewear, your c-section underwear…
  • A box of overnight sized maxi-pads
